What Is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is an holistic manual therapy which is now becoming more widely recognised as an effective form of treatment for a wide variety of complaints and ailments. Osteopathy was created and founded by Andrew Taylor Still in the 19th century as an alternative to orthodox medicine available at that time.
The principles of osteopathy are based around the idea of bringing the body into proper alignment - improving its function - allowing harmony between the body mind and spirit, therefore treating the person as a whole and not just as separate parts. Osteopaths believe that the body has the ability to heal itself – it simply needs the correct input via treatment, in order to ease any discomfort within the body. There are several 'branches' of osteopathic treatment available, such as:
Structural Osteopathy-Joint manipulation and articulation, direct work onto muscles, ligaments and other soft tissues
Cranial Osteopathy-Gentle, subtle, manipulation and realignment of the skull, spine and pelvic bones as well as the fluid and the membranes surrounding the central nervous system.
Visceral Osteopathy-Gentle external manipulation of some internal organs such as the intestines and liver to improve internal mobility and therefore function
My Approach:
My approach is a combination of structural, cranial and visceral osteopathy. This allows me to be able to treat a wide variety of patients and complaints. This multi-disciplined approach means that my treatment is suitable for people of all ages, from the newborn to the elderly. All treatments are tailored to the individual and techniques are only used with the patients full consent. My aim is to help to integrate the body through treatment and to help with lifestyle changes through gentle exercises and advice, enabling the patient to take control of their own body.
What can osteopathy help with?

It is not only adults who can benefit from osteopathy, but also babies and children who can have gentle and effective treatment, for problems such as:
My background:
I graduated from the European School of Osteopathy, Kent, in 2004 after completing a 4 year full time degree course. The course extensively covered anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic skills alongside osteopathic techniques and principles. I have been working in private practice graduating, and see a wide range of patients and conditions.
I am also fully registered with the General Osteopathic Council and regularly attend osteopathic courses and lectures to continually update my knowledge base and skills.
Treatments are carried out in a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. The treatment room itself is situated within the tranquil grounds of the centre, and offers plenty of parking space.
